(Reserves, USMC, Foreign Pilots, etc.) Remember, the USN doesn't have a dedicated training carrier anymore like the old USS Lexington. Of course new pilots must do the same and other pilots have to re-qualify from time to time. Basically, navy aircraft have to pre-qualify on a carrier (not necessarily there own) before they can deploy on a cruise. This is very common and aircraft many times don't even belong to the Carrier that they are doing take-off and landing from. More than likely they will fly out of Oceana Naval Air Base (Virginia) to join other USN aircraft working up before deployments. ![]() I don't think the French Rafales and Hawkeyes are joining any USN Carrier Airwings per se. So conceivably we could see Super Hornets, F-35s, and Rafales all operating off the same carrier at the same time. The only problem I see about the last part of that article is why would the US leave aircraft of it's own off to support the Rafales in a crises? Of course looking at the numbers of the typical airwing vs the size the carriers are designed for I suppose they could be in ADDITION to.
